Radler

And here's something I have been working on for far too long:

Radler - a lace shawl

This is a top down knitted shawl pattern, that can be worked to any size. There are optional beads at the centre and edging.

Pattern available for sale here

I got the first draft of the pattern written up a year and a half ago, and then went and had a baby. It has taken me until now to actually get it finished and ready to publish! I'm hoping the next one will be a little quicker, although I'm not counting on it.

Name Change

I've been thinking about changing the name of this blog for a while, and now that I've pretty much committed to putting more time into other crafts and less into weaving for a while I'm going to make the leap. Originally I was stuck in the mindset of creating a new blog, but recently realised that was unnecessary. So the URL is the same, just a new title (which I think encompasses more of the fibre arts than the old one).

So without further ado, introducing the blog of StringHerder! (It may eventually get a makeover too).

A sadly familiar sight

My current craft room just isn't really big enough for the loom and everything else, and it wasn't realistic that I was going to get much weaving done over the next year or so anyway. So it has been dismantled again. With any luck we'll have a new house to put it in before I miss it too terribly, in the meantime I have a table loom anyway. (And plenty of other crafty stuff to keep busy with).

Post with actual photos!

Napkins are washed, haven't started hemming yet. I don't think I'll actually get them done by the end of the month, but close enough. Next job on the weaving front is dismantling the loom, once storage space is cleared for it.

I have been making progress on the Christmas stocking for this year, I have reasonably high hopes of finishing by Christmas.

I have now finished 22 of 36 squares for the blanket I'm making, so with any luck I'll get that done in time too. And in a wee break from blanket squares I decided to make myself some new socks (one complete so far, apart from grafting the toe).

Quick Update

Weaving is off the loom! Done a quick check for things to fix, next step is a more detailed check then wash. I seem to have managed to keep my width pretty consistent, which I'm pleased with. More detailed update after washing and finishing.

Progress

Five napkins done so far. One more to make six, and then probably another two to finish the warp. (I'm just guessing on that). I haven't managed to weave for a little while, but hopefully I'll manage to get back to it soon (if I ever get caught up on sleep).

Somehow my list of things to make just keeps growing, I am currently knitting squares for a baby blanket (9 of 36 done), and slowly stitching away on the Christmas stocking.

I am considering dismantling my loom when the napkins are done because the room it is in really isn't big enough, and it's quite awkward to work around. I'm keeping an eye out for a smallish 8 shaft table loom to tide me over until I have a better space for weaving again. I did consider getting a smaller floor loom instead, but I do really like the one I have and we live in hope of having a house again one day.

Been weaving

I started actually weaving on the napkins at the beginning of the year, and have now done three and a half. No photos though, as they're a gift. Each napkin has 6 pattern repeats, and I'm aiming for one a day, although some days I don't manage to get to the loom at all. I think I'm aiming for 6 (maybe 8), and the deadline I'm hoping to meet is some time in March. So far, so good...

100 day hustle - in hindsight.

I didn't finish everything on the list, and I did do a few things that weren't there, but I'm happy with my progress. I definitely liked having the list to remind me what I was supposed to be working on.
1. Finish knitting shawl (deadline mid October)

2. Assemble Christmas stocking

3. Lightweight jacket for The Monkey

4. New sunhat for The Monkey
Previous photo has both jacket and hat.
5. Overdue wedding present to weave - didn't make any progress on this one. I really need to get some bobbins wound, and then something more might happen.

And things that would be nice to get done:
1. Finish half made socks - no finished photo
2. Make a start on Papillon Around the World embroidery

This heart is finished now, no new photo though.
3. Organise craft room some more! - not really
4. Finish spinning purple corriedale - done a wee bit more, not even halfway though.

Done things

The stocking is done, as is a wee jumper. The jumper wasn't exactly on my list, and is really for next winter, but I'm glad to have it done now anyway.

Photos tomorrow, I hope

Shawl!

I finished this nearly a month ago, and sent it off to Norway for a shawl swap. It arrived in good time, but I was slack about posting it here.

So, without further ado, I present Shawl:

Roughly semicircular, used about 120g of lace weight yarn in two colours. I think it was a fairly even split of how much I used of each, but I didn't weigh what I had to start with so I can't say for sure.

There is a smaller version in my future, but there are a few other things to finish up first.
